I remembered when we first moved in to Rawang town, it was in January 1997. A year before Asher was born. We had a small plot of nice soft grass in the garden front of our house. I loved it so much and every morning whenever we were home with joy I would do weeding which was often then because we had just begun taking up the pastoring of the church TOG. I would do try my best to keep the weeds off the grass. I noticed that the days I had been busy and didn’t find the time for weeding, the roots of the weeds would spread and strengthened itself against the beautiful grass.
The Lord spoke then to me that our negative thoughts of unbelief are like these weeds that seek to overrule and bring our mind and our thoughts into captivity. We need to cast down every thought and imagination that exalt itself against the Words of Christ. Easier to deal with it while they were small and fragile.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
It was like a war keeping the weeds out and I had to be so diligent or it would creep at a time I am not aware.
I became pregnant and I still did weeding but I had to take rest especially in the earlier months when I almost lost my child. Then one day I started to weed again with my big tummy. I noticed how happily the weeds have overtaken much of the plot.
The scripture below rung in my head but I knew Jesus was not referring to the plot of grass overtaken by weeds but our soul coming under captivity.
In parable of Tares, Jesus said:
Matthew 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
There are a few things stuck in my head from that weeding lesson :
1) Don’t allow weeds to take root. These seeds fall coz of the birds and animals. Similarly passing thoughts would hit us at any time and it is hard to prevent it but we can prevent them from taking hold on our imagination.
2) Easier to weed on a wet ground. Spend time in prayer of thanksgiving and worship and adoration and let that rain 🌧 inside of you. Our ground must be wet and soft. Let that tears flow, it is good for the soul. It is easier for the Spirit of God to help you weed out wrong thoughts and worries of unbelief from taking root.
3) Spend quality time in the word. If you delay the enemy would throw tares in. Your mind is the battle ground and the enemy seeks to captivate it, don’t let him. Guard your mind.
4) Continually be captivated and filled with Holy Spirit
Ephesians 5:18 -20
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer:
Father we thank You for Your watchful eyes and care over us. Forgive us for doubting you and allowing the enemy to sow anxieties and negative thoughts in our
minds. We believe in you Father and we have that mustard seed faith that You Lord will triumph over us with singing.
Our hearts 💕 rejoice over You and ignite that fire 🔥 of faith one more time. We believe yes we believe again that in you great things will be accomplished.
In Jesus name Amen.
(We have shifted from that house many years ago and in our present place we grow cowgrass that’s easier to maintain. 😊
